WORK WITH WHAT YOU HAVE PROJECT
The Work With What You Have Project is part of Loam's mission to encourage each other to live in a way that both feeds our creative spirit and fosters a healthy environment. Because how we treat the planet says A LOT about how we treat ourselves. (FYI: The photo above is from the Hell's Kitchen Farm Project's rooftop garden...definitely an example of working with what you have to make beautiful things happen!)
Living sustainably is about embracing swaps rather than making sacrifices. It's about privileging experiences over objects. It's about buying better and buying less. When we know where our food comes from and how our clothes are made and the labor conditions of the farmers in our community, we grow our respect for and accountability to the environment and the many creatures within it.
Starting in September, we're committed to providing you a comprehensive and creative toolkit to encourage you to appreciate the bounty that surrounds you and work with what you have to generate meaningful experiences and explore an environmentally-sound way of life. And we can think of no better way to kick start this project than with September's Zero Waste Challenge. Our inspiration? Ree of Fort Negrita, who shows us that it is possible to go trash-free if we are open to creative exploration. Ree will be here to provide advice on living zero waste and practicing self-sufficiency. We hope you'll take the challenge with us to make the shift toward zero waste. You'll be surprised to discover just how much you'll gain.
And remember that, as with anything, you won't always get it "right" and that's okay. The point is to make living zero waste a practice not a punishment. Show forgiveness to yourself, exercise compassion with others, and have fun.
